BARACOA is an unique remote place in Cuba located in the very east of the island.
Sorrounded by forrest, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, Baracoa charms nearly everyone.
Life runs slow here, so it’s even better to feel and enjoy the beauty of this place.
We came to Baracoa, with a bottle of Carta Blanca Santiago white rum, from Santiago de Cuba after crazy night in the city. Usually when you sleep in casas particulares /private homestay/ hosts recommend each other. You get a card or name of a casa of once cousin or a friend in a place you go. Sometimes you even see someone holding a card with your name in bus station.
Our Hosts were Jose and Maria. Lovely people, with clean house and serving good food – if you go there try langusta for sure! We got good tips of interesting places in town from Jose, thanks for that. A nickname 'Boss’ was most accurate one, which he liked I think.
We spent a few days chilling in Baracoa. Entourage was so beautiful, peaceful place, the Ocean and tranquil people…
Things to see in Baracoa:
-
Malecon
A long street by the oceanside. You can feel a pleasuring breeze and sun on your face. A walk along Malecon in the afternoon crashes.
-
Parque Independentia
A town’s main square. Most people gather here to socialize. Good place to start a party at night or watch how people hang out in Baracoa.
-
NIGHTLIFE
– Casa de la Trova – A small dance and drink bar next to the Cathedral in main sqaure playing good live music with many locals and some tourists. Most popular in town and a first place to go.
– La Terraza – a party with dance contests and full volume music on top of a huge building. Open air dance floor is cool with stars above.
– Bar El Ranchón – a place where nearly everybody go. The most popular place with spectacular views of the bay, often live music.

An old fort, once defending Baracoa from pirates, now a small museum with some fauna, flora, and Baracoa history exhibitions.
-

Casa del Chocolate
Cool place to drink some chocolate…
– El Poeta restaurant
Really nice place serving local deliciuos specialities like fish, soups, seets in leaves, blocks of chocolate and sugarcane with rum tasing.
