After Vientiane most people bypass Savannakhet and go straight to Pakse or Si Phan Don.
Old crumbling French architecture and many interesting Wats are definitely worth to pay even a short visit.
I came to spend one day in Savannakhet after night on a bus from Vientiane.
Mekong river sets daily routine. On the other side Thailand waves her hand.
Wandering around the old quarter and Mekong shores fills the whole morning.
I talk to locals and fell the unhurried atmosphere.

The Wats
I spent more than 3 hours taking to the young trainee monks. I was asking about their motivation to be monks and many other themes.
The trainees were also curious about my life in Europe. Wanted to speak to me to practice a foreign language.
This are things I love about travelling.
When you meet someone that you can give a peace of you and feel the connection, even for a short moment. An exchange of thoughts and experence with people also inquisitive about the world.
One day in Savannakhet resulted a real travelling moments 🙂
After Savannakhet next Laos backpacking was Pakse to see BOLAVEN PLATEAU
