GAHWINDEN DEER in PITZTAL
PITZTAL valley in Tyrol is famous for very good ski facilities in winter, but in summer it offers also lovely hikes and many activities.
I was visiting my friend Joe from Kaprun on my way back from Bernese Alps in Switzerland. His girlfriend’s parents hosted us in Pitztal valley. Riml´s Ferienhaus, Stillebach 80 A- 6481 St. Leonhard. Really nice place both for summer and winter time.
Next day we went for a nice hike up to Rüsselsheimer Hütte to watch GAHWINDEN DEER.
Easiest way to Rüsselsheimer Hütte from the valley is from Plangeroß.
The trail is little steep and nature, flowers, birds make the day…
After about two hours you reach the hut.
Like in most mountain huts in the Alps you can use your sleeping bag, or you’ll get blankets. Don’t stay up too long talking to other 'mountain folks’…
First thing is to get up early in the morning, to get best light and be able to watch the Gahwinden deer.
It’s about one more hour to Gahwinden (2649m) from the hut. We were fortunate to get good weather and see the herd of deer.
Watching this majestic animals up in the mountains and so close to people in the valley was a mystical experience.
You can go back the same way or loop to Trenkwald, or Huben in next valley.
Hiking this route is very easy, everone can do it. Just be alert while photographing the deer… I wasn’t carefull enought and nearly broke my ribs on loose rocks.
