Jokulsarlon Lagoon and Diamond Beach in Iceland are next to each other, just by the National Road 1.
The icebergs originate as the part of a glacier’s Europe’s largest ice cap Vatnajokull. Some are over 1000years old!
They melt and drift down to the sea, then come back as Diamonds and create unique spectacle, a different one, every day.
Diamond Beach Iceland is a black volcanic sand beach where icebergs from the lagoon drift ashore and create the most magical setting.
The blue, black, white and transparent icebergs sit on the beach and melt slowly. You never know what to expect because it’s very vibrat thing.
We arrived at the beach and saw just 2 icebergs!!! We thought, well this is just they Iceland Touristic Department Hoax to attract more toutists … ?!
So we came to Jokulsarlon Lagoon, but the weather was bad and couldn’yt see the Vatnajokull Glacier… Fortunately some seals apeared and quite a lot of birds…
After maybe 2 hours of admiring the lagoon and shooting some time-lapses we came back to the Diamond Beach and it was Christmas!
So many Diamonds 🙂
You can walk amongst them, see through and play around them. I rearly use this word but it was amazing!
The most unique thing about the Diamond Beach is that it never ever looks the same.
Even if you just visited the day before the beach will have changed completely and the icebergs and natural ice sculptures, will have reformed, melted away and new ones appeared.
The Diamond Beach is a very important breeding ground for many of Iceland’s most well-known birds including the Great Sku , Arctic Terna and a National conservation area. I think that’s why they ban to fly Dones there…

Do not litter!

Iceland is so pure and intact
Littering seems extra crime here. I mean I try never to leave any mess or leave less litter behind me as possible. In Iceland even toilets in campsites are supreclean. Let’s stay it that way.
