Transfagarasan road means “over the Fagaras Mountains” is a beautiful and picturesque national road DN 7C connecting Transilvania and Wallachia regions.
Fagaras mountains are the highest part of the Carpathians in Romania reaching over 2500m, so Transfagarasan road is open usually only from June till September, because snow cowering it for the rest of the year.
So is it worth going there when it’s not motorable in late Spring in May? Yes and no. Have a look.
Best is to start from village Cartisoara between Sibiu and Fagaras, you can see the Fagarasan Mountains overwhelming majesty.
Car or motorcycle?
This time I was with my car, but in summer Transfagarasan road with it’s streamers, my pick is a motorcycle…
My friends and I were visiting Transilvania in May, a bit early for Fogaras mountains, but we wanted to see famous Transfăgărășan.
Here is a link to my friends blog- Odprawieni.pl- post from Romania
We drove up to ropeway station, and took a cable car up to Top .
On top there is a nice restaurant. The road was closed, but we could see it from the cable car, and walk around the Balea Lake.
This short trip was great, we were in Transilvania and just a short glimpse of Transfăgărășan coverred in snow left us with insufficency. Makes me come back here in summer and on a MOTORCYCLE.
