Vientiane Laos is an interesting, small and slow capital without skyscrapers, smog and traffic jams.
Live seem to not fly but walk very slow here.
Some people find it boring but slow life in Vientiane has it’s charm.
Laos enchanted me with it’s beauty and it’s people’s goodness and hospitality. Everywhere I went I found such a nice people.
I came to Vientiane Laos late at night with no reservation, which I do all the time, and suprisingly finding a room wasn’t that easy. All budget ones where occupied so I had to go over my backpacker standard and crush for a night in a hotel.
Vientiane is not for all travellers/backpakers. It’s very different from huge Bangkok, or Ho Chi Minh. It doesn’t look like an average capital at all.
It’s a small city with some Wats, Monuments, Museums, Markets and a bowling centre with cinemas. It’s definately not a party place but very nice peaceful city.
For this part of my 6 month Asia Trip it was just what I needed. Chill, peace and quiet. Laos was such a shanti shanti place.
It was two lazy days in Vientiane Laos the Shanti Capital.
Renting a bike is a good idea to cycle around all the interesting spots.
The Wats and Stupas
Among many others the most iconic stupa is Pha That Luang believed to house the relic of the Buddha.
And many Wats
The impressive Patuxai Victory Monument is one of the most distinctive landmarks of Vientiane. A massive concrete arch recaling the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Climbing the top will allow you to enjoy Vientiane Laos panorama.
Loose, sleepy and relaxed atmosphere in Vientiane affects also my visiting attitude and so I do not visit all attractions…
Instead I just wander around and observe normal living in Laos capital, Street stalls or Cock Fighter washing and preparations…
The city seem to get a new life after sunset, when temperature drops down and lots of people go out onto the streets.
Night Market or restaurants and bars along the Mekong river attract crowds.
In conclusion if this kind of loose and relaxed atmosphere suits you Vientiane is also a place to visit in Laos.
My next stops in Laos were:
– Savannakhet
– Balaven Plateau
